William "Bill" Cuny Citizenship Award

 Nearly nine years ago the world of education on this reservation lost a very important part of its’ community, and many lost a very good friend.

           Bill Cuny began his teaching career at the Cuny Table Country School. During his years of dedication to the school system, and to education, Mr. Cuny touched many lives. Many teachers, students, and administrators’ lives were positively enhanced as a result of knowing and working with Bill Cuny.

Outstanding Student Leadership Award

Richard “Dick” Hagen was a popular politician and statesman. He lived on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation most of his life. Dick was a rodeo announcer as well as a politician for many years. He served 3 terms as a tribal council representative and later served 18 terms as a South Dakota Legislator and 2 terms as a State Senator.

Dick was the master of ceremonies and strong supporter of the Pine Ridge Reservation Recognition Banquet. He was a positive influence on the lives of many youth.
